Love Notes with the family | Scrapbook Village
Love Notes class was awesome. Debbie brought wonderful papers and embellishments home from CHA and treated the gals in the class with lots of extra scrapbook?supplies. Love Notes is a Saturday class that our designer Debbie instructs once a month.?Come?try a class?or become a full time love note gal for a whole year. .. Great to see the mother and daughter team join us Sat. The 9 year old completed her advanced class and joined mom. Now that's getting them started early and enjoying that special ltime together at the Village. Whay is clled LOVE NOTES? Plenty of?room for family pictures and places to journal your love notes about the events, expressing your love with the family and the time together.

Milkshakes Anytime: Should Step-Parents Discipline their Step ...
This is a question I hear often from new blended families.? Obviously, I don't have the answer that will work for every family, but I can tell you about my experience.? When my husband and I married, my step-daughters were 15 and 9.? I was so excited to have daughters for the first time, I was admittedly a bit overzealous.? I wanted them to love me, and accept me as part of their life.? At first, my new step-daughters adored me.? I was taking them shopping, hanging out with them, and generally just having a swell time with them.? Things were going along so well that the 15 year old would spend more than just weekends with us, and in fact wanted to be with us the majority of the time.? This all changed the first time I attempted to discipline my oldest step-daughter.? Both of the girls were staying the night, and my husband was working late.? My oldest step-daughter was on the phone way past the time established by her father.? I reminded her of her dad's rule and asked her to hang up...like 10 times.? After all the friendly attempts, I took the phone away, and hung it up.? I also took it to my room with me. This led to her screaming at me, me losing my cool and yelling back, a call to my husband at work, a call to her bio mom to come and pick her up and hard feelings all around.? I did not feel my husband took my side with enough ferocity, her bio mom reminded me I was not a parent, the whole nine yards.? Obviously, looking at this situation, my step-daughter should have obeyed the rule in our home.? That's a given, however, I could have diffused the situation as well.? Some suggestions my current self would give my former self:
1.? Walk away.? The phone thing is not a big deal in the whole scheme of things and can be addressed at a later date.
2.? Looking back, I should not have been left alone with the girls so early in our marriage.? If my husband had to work , they should stay with their mom.? This removes the step-parent from the role of disciplinarian.? Obviously, this won't work in all cases, but in ours, my step-daughters live in close proximity to us and could easily come back and forth between homes when their dad was not working.
3.? Call my husband and let him handle it over the phone with his daughter.? I didn't want to call him that night and bother him, but ultimately, he got a call anyway, and by that time the situation was overblown.? If I would have called him initially, the conflict may have remained more manageable.?
4.? Call Bio Mom - this also may not work in all situations, but if you have a relationship of mutual respect, this is a definite possibility.? With the relationship I now share with my husband's ex, I would feel more than comfortable calling her to intervene and remind her daughter of rules and expectations.?
Most "experts" in blending families suggest the step-parent not discipline at all for 18 months.? I can say in our situation, I no longer discipline at all.? About 5 years ago, I realized it never ended well, so I just stopped.? I let my husband deal with the discipline issues.? I am an adult in the home, and they respect me for sure.? If I ask them to unload the dishwasher or some other task, they do it with no complaint.? If they were to balk at something I asked, however, I would now leave it to their dad to manage.? My husband does not always handle it like I would like it to be handled, he is often way too lenient, but this is where disengaging has really saved my sanity.? So, to wrap up my long answer to the discipline question:? Relationship first, than discipline.? Wait at least 18 months, or leave it to the bio parent whenever humanly possible.

UN to start food aid to flooded North Korea as access eases
The UN World Food Programme will start emergency food aid to isolated North Korea, which has been pummeled by a typhoon and flooding.

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has said it will send a first batch of emergency food aid to impoverished North Korea, where a series of deluges and a typhoon have left hundreds of people dead or missing.

The North's state media reported on Saturday that the death toll from flooding between late June and the end of last month had increased to 169. KCNA news agency said the number of missing had risen to some 400, while 212,200 had been left homeless.
In a statement published on its website on Friday, WFP said it would send emergency assistance comprising "an initial ration of 400 grams of maize per day for 14 days." A recent UN report classified 7.2 million of the country's 24 million population as "chronic poor," and said 1 in 3 children was stunted from poor nutrition.
A United Nations mission that recently visited the affected regions found considerable damage to maize, soybean, and rice fields, the WFP statement said.
KCNA reported on Saturday the floods had washed away 65,280 hectares (about 161,000 acres) of farmland. It added that more than 1,400 educational, healthcare, and factory buildings had also collapsed or been damaged.
Since the mid-1990s, North Korea's agricultural sector has become increasingly vulnerable to floods and drought as a result of widespread deforestation.
Access to North Korea has improved during recent flooding, UN agencies said on Friday, suggesting the country is seeking to ease its traditional isolation at least temporarily.
"There's been a loosening up and more access to the country and a slightly more relaxed atmosphere," Patrick McCormick, spokesman for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), told a regular UN news conference in Geneva.
"Even before the flooding, the question of access to North Korea has eased for UNICEF's operations," Mr. McCormick said.
Jens Laerke, spokesman for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said North Korea had taken the initial step to ask the United Nations for support. "There was a request to the UN to organize a joint mission," he told reporters.
Such crises have in the past provided opportunities for the isolated nation to reach out to the outside world, although this has typically not endured. World powers have been watching closely to see if new leader Kim Jong-un, who came to power after his father's death in December, will break from the policy of his predecessors.

Need a replacement to rp Batman and The Joker
Need someone who wants to roleplay Batman and The Joker. Im RPing Moon Spell (Moon Knight) and Black Spectre in the following RPG.
NOTE: It would be nice if you didnt just play the normal character, but instead make up a different origin for the character [not required though], I took the Moon Knight and Spectre characters and created new backstories for them.

Gotham has been described as "New York from 14th Street down, the older buildings, more brick-and-mortar as opposed to steel-and-glass." and as "New York below 14th Street, from Soho to Greenwich Village, the Bowery, Little Italy, Chinatown, and the sinister areas around the base of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.

In May, 1998 Gotham city suffered the results of a magnitude 7.6 earthquake, the epicenter of the which was less than a mile from Wayne Manor. In the wake of the destruction, the devastated city spiraled into chaos. Resulting in the federal government cutting Gotham off from the rest of the United States and making it into a No Man's Land, destroying all bridges leading to Gotham and forbidding people from entering or exiting.
The United States government eventually reversed the No Man's Land order and allowed Gotham to rejoin the United States,
The Black Mask crime family gained control over all gangs in newly renovated Gotham City, successfully running all crime in Gotham from inside Arkham Asylum. Another mysterious group has revealed itself and is planning to take over the reigns of power from the Black Mask crime family. Calling themselves the New Black Masks.
Gotham City is once again that dark and foreboding metropolis rife with crime, grime, corruption, and a deep-seated sense of urban decay in the parts of the city not rejuvenated post-No Man's Land.
This is the situation in which our anti-hero's find themselves.......
